There was several minutes of silence from the boy as he recovered from what had just happened, can of soda still in his hand and his eyebrows raised in surprise. “Uh, good one, Steph. Good one,” he murmured finally, tugging at his hat to cover the rising blush on his ears. “Y’sure know how to mess with a guy don’t ya?”

“Damn straight,” she said and winked at him, giving him a kiss on the cheek in apology. There would be time to get a little more affectionate later after dinner and the movie. She had just bought another lingerie set she thought he might get a kick out of … Anything to distract him from seeing her nasty scar for the first time. Steph nibbled on her orange chicken and jumped again as the demon girl popped out, causing her to shriek again. 

Steph’s sudden jerk and her gasp caused Barry to startle. He coughed, putting his can down for once, the odd feeling in his throat causing him to continue to cough. With a sigh he offered her a somewhat dirty glare, mainly teasing, a stray hack or two escaping. “I’ll — I’ll make you damn straight if you keep it up,” he threatened, realizing how stupid it sounded once it came out of his mouth, before snickering and sinking back into the couch.
